Amazing Maze-building TD Roguelite -- Emberward Review [Early Access]
Emberward is tower defense roguelite game that has a twist: you build the maze and therefore the path that enemies go down. This same maze also determines how you can place your towers. It's clearly still an early access game with content missing that would ensure true long term replayability (it's early access), but it's already a great game and it has a solid core. So let's get into it, and let's review Emberward.

Lots of Potential, But Not a Lot of Content -- The Rogue Prince of Persia Review [Early Access]
Переглядів 633Місяць тому
Evil Empire, one of the makers of Dead Cells, are out with a new game in Early Access, The Rogue Prince of Persia. It's another side-scrolling action roguelite, but it's definitely not just Dead Cells 2.0. While there are some similarities, there are also a lot of different design choices made along the way. And importantly, the game is early access, and just needs more content. So let's get in...

      I bet you'd like Hades II more but it's hard to say exactly how much. You can't dash spam in the same way and the combat often feels a little less button mashy with Hades II allowing for a lot more slow, less attack spam style builds. But it's also still Hades DNA which is on the more attack spammy side compared to anything soulslike for example.

    Interesting and precise review. Well done! THANK YOU for saying that's not Dead Cells 2.0, since it's not on many levels. I don't agree about your analysis on medallions' system: It already gives you the ability to have a big variety in runs. I already played It for a LOT of hours and I had the chance to create Crazy builds, especially when creating builds with medallions with 3 different elements, or use paper lion to have a Crazy level of damage. New medallions are on the way: devs did also on Discord a contest to propose new medallions and some of them Will be considered in next updates. All the other considerations are Fair in my opinion, but it's Just a month and a half from the beginning of early access so it's to be expected (like you said). I don't like people that analyze the game as if It's a 1.0 since it's not Fair and it's not your case. About difficulty levels, EE announced the awakenings through an in game cutscene that Will allow to manage difficulty in a customizable way (maybe like hades?). I think that the game has already a good amount of content to allow the player to have fun for a lot of hours (let's Say I'm MORE than 50 right now...), so I Highly recommend the game. ... Of course, IF YOU EXPECT AN EARLY ACCESS GAME AND NOT A FINAL COMPLETED GAME.

    • @InsertReviews
      @InsertReviews Місяць тому

      Thanks! Early access games are always harder to review because it's a work in progress so when you point out missing content it's always caveated with "but it's not supposed to be complete." Some people definitely expect too much out of them though which probably means they might not be the best person to play early access games. Interesting, I'm glad they're adding difficulty levels soon! Curious to see what they will do with a more customizable system. Fair enough on medallions. Some of them are very powerful and some of the on X (e.g. on kick) effects are fun. I just wish I had a couple more buildcrafting pieces or synergies with the weapons or something else to play around with.

    • @andrewWolf24
      @andrewWolf24 Місяць тому

      @@InsertReviews yes I agree, also you cannot justify everything that doesn't work with "it's Just early access". Yes I'm waiting for new medallions to try different sinergies and have more variety, but Hey I already have as many hours as dead Cells and the Road to 1.0 Is still long, so I'm super Happy of the current situation 😉 I'm curious to see what's next, devs previewed a system that increases your movement Speed It you concatenate acrobatics moves.... Let's see! Maybe next week 🤞

    I really love Hades, but Hades 2 comes kinda subpar. I mean I can see they try something different Different combat, story, building system etc. But it feels lacking and generally, slow? Combat doesnt give you the fast paced feeling of immortal god hacking and slashing through wretches, sometimes can be boring You die so easily, with new building system it is really hard to gather a complimenting boon set, sometimes it is really really weak. Mid bosses can be impossible for some weapon and boons, more often then first game I played for hours and killed chronos two times but didnt feel like getting permanent upgrades. Mirror of night upgrade system in first game was so simple and clear, in hades 2 I am collecting herbs and stones but I cant get a clear idea how much progress I made, what I need now? a pink flower or moon dust, where? And major joy kill for me was characters, I dont know how to explain but in first game everyone was so unique, different yet charming, I could feel relationship and interactions between them, this time, I couldnt feel that depth? Hard to explain, Zagreus was my boy, smug, easy going, fun yet deadly .. Melanoe, i dont know, fury sisters have more style and spice. Different enemies and attack patterns give you a real challenge it is fun but after Hours of grinding you still feel like they can beat you to a pulp, with just one wrong dash and here goes your half health bar.. Maybe Hades was soooo good it is hard to compete. I dont know, dont want to bad mouth new game for no reason.

    I really liked Neon Abyss, but it quickly gets into a “where the heck is my character” situation. Between a long line of following eggs masking the unit, as well as weapons that cover 80% of the screen, it was frustrating to play. I really liked the concept and art style.

      honestly, i'd just play hades as much as you can to scratch that itch as to savor hades 2 but oh my *god* the game is so good. hades 2 feels like it's moving forward in every aspect, even in early access. there's definitely stuff missing and some big stuff but unless they somehow fumble that content, this will be even more of a masterpiece. the cherry on top is the fact that the overall mood of the game is much different than 1 so it's not like it ever replaces what hades was. it's honestly *very* different in so many ways. the combat, the characters, the tone, the speed, the abilities, this games version of the mirror, the new god synergies, a couple gods from hades 1 getting basically total reworks to be different. it's impressive how they managed to make you feel right at home but feels totally new be excited hahahaha

      I think Deadlink is slightly better from a pure FPS gameplay perspective, but I enjoyed Roboquest more than Deadlink as a whole. It just felt like my runs and builds evolved in a more typical roguelite way that was more enjoyable (with its own limitations of course). They had a couple big updates since I last played that should have added even more variety to Roboquest, but can't comment on them firsthand.
